Mini implants are small diameter dental implants, meaning that the implants are less than 3 millimeters in diameter.  Mini implants are for the most part less expensive than the price of regular dental implants, however depending on your case prices could vary.  Another name for mini implants is SDI (small diameter implants).   Mini implants are valuable for endentulous(missing teeth) patients that have lower or upper dentures that are loose or if the patient wants an easy solution to hold the dentures in place.  The 4 mini implants (on lower), or the 6 mini implants (on upper) consist of mini titanium implants that are placed into the bone and will act like the root of your tooth.  There is an attachment incorporated into the base of your denture, referred to as a locater.  This attachment on your denture snaps onto the top (cap) of the mini implant. This will make the denture feel secure and in place within your mouth. Mini implants can also be used for fixed crown or bridge installations as well.  Mini dental implants could also be used to give temporary support to the denture while the traditional dental implants and bone graft are healing.  Since implants are typically not covered by dental insurance, the mini implants are an affordable solution.  The implants can be accomplished quickly and is easily performed at our dental office.  Ask Dr. Rowen if mini dental implants are right for you!
